As I was re-reading Tuesday’s post about dreaming big and pushing past fear to accomplish our life purposes, I realized that many of us probably think it’s too late for to GO FOR THE GOLD!
NO, NO, NO!!! It’s NEVER too late! In fact, defeat only comes when we stop trying.
Obviously, we all have a certain amount of time here on Earth…shouldn’t we make the best of every moment no matter our age, status, well-being, education or otherwise?
It seems we would rather run down the list of excuses and ways we could fail than putting our efforts towards possibly succeeding.
Shoot for the moon and if you miss you will still be among the stars. – Les Brown
I love that quote because it really puts into perspective the opportunities we miss when we don’t even try.
Sure, we might not achieve the goal we put down on paper this year, but if we make an attempt we might find that we are blessed by just what we did accomplish!
Stop spending time on the many and formidable excuses and start making strides towards the aspirations of our hearts.
For some inspiration…here are ten examples of people who did great things among adversity or at an older age, including:
The thief who was forgiven and promised eternal life by Jesus as he was hanging on the cross dying. (Talk about adversity and the best accomplishment ever…whew!!)
Sarah gave birth to Isaac when she was about 90…yikes!
Paul persecuted Christians for years…only to become one of the prolific writers of our New Testament and a follower of Jesus Christ.
Nelson Mandela spent 27 years in prison before becoming the President of South Africa at age 76.
Ray Kroc sold paper cups and milkshake mixers until age 52 when he joined McDonalds and built it into the most successful fast-food operation in the world.
Mary Kay Ash started Mary Kay Cosmetics at age 45 and one month after her husband died of a heart attack.
Vera Wang was an ice skater and journalist before becoming a fashion designer at age 40.
Laura Ingalls Wilder published the first in the “Little House” books at age 65 in 1932.
Anna Mary Robertson Moses, better known as Grandma Moses, began her painting career at 78.
Colonel Harland Sanders started the Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise at age 65.
These people illustrate the possibilities that can be achieved when we pray, focus and act! However, lip service has never gotten anyone anywhere, so taking action is a MUST.
And keep the charge of the Lord your God, walking in his ways and keeping his statutes, his commandments, his rules, and his testimonies, as it is written in the Law of Moses, that you may prosper in all that you do and wherever you turn…. 1Kings 2:3
Moreover, maybe we don’t have the desire to do something big. That’s absolutely fine as long as we remember that something ‘big’ can be as small as a smile or a hug. Those actions speak louder than words and can change someone’s entire life.
Don’t dismiss the power we each have in the encouragement, support, and love we can give others.
For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. Romans 15:4
It’s never too late to be a late bloomer, regardless of where our garden is or what it looks like!
Some Wisdom for Today: Proverbs 3:1-4 – My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments, for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you. Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. So you will find favor and good success in the sight of God and man.
