How are those New Year’s resolutions going for you? Are you sticking to them? Have you fallen off the wagon? Are you pretending like you never made them in the first place??
If you are hanging your head in shame…don’t get too upset because the average length of resolutions is three DAYS (my pastor threw this statistic out on Sunday). Shocking, I know!!!
Since I was blogging a great deal about getting prepared for 2014 back in January, I decided to take my own advice. So, instead of making resolutions, I made myself a lengthy list of goals split into four categories:
Personal (i.e. lose weight, exercise, same old same old)
Work (i.e. write 5 blogs a week, add two clients, buy a camera)
Home (i.e. clean out rat drawer, find 2 new breakfast bar chairs)
Family (i.e. save $$, take a ski trip)
Consequently, I wrote these goals on a spreadsheet by category, printed it with a large font, and hung it above my computer. I figured this was the most visible place for me in the house since I sit there for hours on end.
Today I checked to see how I am doing thus far. Drum roll, please.
Now then…pat Meg on the shoulder!! I’ve completed TWENTY of the 58 that I listed!!! WOOHOO! Not too shabby for someone who considers herself a lazy bum on most days and crazy on others!!!
This is just the kind of pick-me-up I needed on this dreary, rainy, chilly day!
Lately, I’d been chastising myself for not being more organized, getting more done and feeling more accomplished. Ugh!!
There always seems to be something else I should be doing…jeepers! Sadly, more times than most I feel like crawling back in bed and hiding under the covers instead of tackling my ‘to do’ list!!
Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. Romans 8:26
The truth is that we all get down, depressed and discouraged. This is not news and it is not likely to change any time soon. However, there is hope!
Don’t let the world steal your joy and peace. In fact, don’t listen to world at all! Listen to God’s teaching. Listen to His Word. Listen to His loving directions.
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. Romans 15:13
When we get self-consumed with what we think WE can get done in this world then we are most certainly missing the point. It’s God’s will to be done, not ours.
The only way we can truly recharge regularly is to place God above all else in every moment of every day. If we don’t, the ways of this world will drag us down, confuse us and completely destroy our purpose.
Therefore, take a moment and check out how you are doing. Regardless of what you find, go to God in prayer and do the following:
Praise Him.
Thank Him.
Ask Him to help others.
Ask Him to help you.
You might just find you are doing better than you thought you were! I sure did!!!
Some Wisdom for Today: Proverbs 23:18 – Surely there is a future, and your hope will not be cut off.
