My anal-retentive organizational skills happen to be the only reason I am even remotely ready for (and not pulling my hair out just thinking about) my Thanksgiving week away to see family and friends in Tennessee and Georgia. I shudder to think of the things I have forgotten!
I AM NOT GOING TO WORRY ABOUT THOSE THINGS…famous last words.
Even though I still have a week and a half to pull together clothes, winter coats, accessories, presents, work projects, haircuts and more; I am doing my best to keep on top of my To Do List so that I don’t get overwhelmed with the little things that always come up at the last minute.
Thank you, God, for my sometimes “Type A” personality traits!! These characteristics serve me well when I need to get a ton of stuff done!!
Prioritizing my time is critical when I am getting ready for a trip across the country, but that same focus would assist me greatly in everyday life, as well.
The problem is that the little things (that do not matter at all) suck all of the time and energy right out of me!
For if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God’s church? 1Timothy 3:5
The above scripture steps all over my toes and makes me ashamed of my constant worry over things that just do not matter.
I dare say, we’ve all thought these same thoughts once or twice:
What will people say?
I don’t care if I don’t have the money for this right now, but I want it.
Am I keeping up with the Joneses?
I don’t have time for God because I’m so busy working my fingers to the bone.
I need to work longer hours to make more money to pay my humongous bills.
I want people to think I’m better than I actually am.
It’s easier to say yes than to honestly say no.
If I’m busy, that means I’m worthy.
Life is way too short to be caught up in the rat race.
For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul? For what can a man give in return for his soul? Mark 8:36-37
Often we get ensnared by the bright, shiny things of the world and lose sight of the most important pieces of our lives.
The good stuff includes (NOTE: this is the correct order, too):
God
Spouse
Children
Family
Friends
Everything else
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Matthew 6:33
For some awful reason, we don’t trust God to make our life work out the way it’s supposed to. We spend way too much time editing, changing, and making life happen our way instead of concentrating on God and living as He would have us.
Maybe we are in need of an attitude and priority adjustment….
Do you need to change your focus today?
Some Wisdom for Today: Proverbs 24:27 – Prepare your work outside; get everything ready for yourself in the field, and after that build your house.
