Change is a’comin’! I know it, I feel it and I have failed to prepare for it. (If the act of thinking prepares oneself for the future, than I should be the most prepared person in the world. But, I’m pretty sure preparation takes action). Argh!
“The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied.” Proverbs 13:4
Uh, oh!
As I’ve said before, my youngest is starting kindergarten in a few weeks and that will leave this stay-at-home mom with a dilemma…no kids to care for from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. every Monday-Friday until June 7, 2013.
You’d think I’d be excited with all of the new-found time I’ll have. But, honestly, I’m scared to death and I have a blurred vision of what this change is going to look like.
In fact, I don’t even know what I WANT it to look like. Of course, a part-time job from 9-1 every day, making a gazillion dollars with weekends and summers off would SO work…I just haven’t gotten any offers, yet.
Thankfully, I have plenty of friends and family who have gone before me who say, “Everything will work itself out.” Well, okay. But I need a plan.
Am I going to fill the time with volunteering, blogging, bible studies and room mom activities? Am I going to get a job and give up the afterschool time and summers with the boys? Am I going to make a go at writing for a living from the comfort of my own home…and how do I do that? Am I going to get a part-time job to pass the time? WHAT AM I GOING TO DO?
I’ve been in marketing long enough to know that if ‘you fail to plan, you plan to fail.’ I have no clue who said that, but they were REALLY smart!! Ha!
“Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.” Proverbs 16:3
I have been praying for the past year for God to reveal to me what I’m supposed to be doing in this next phase of my life. I’ve prayed for the discernment to see the “NEON SIGN” from God so that I will know I’m on the correct path. I’ve prayed to be in His will and to find success in whatever I choose to do with this freedom.
Silence….
I have yet to hear the resounding call of God’s voice saying, “Meg, turn right at X Street and proceed to Y Street and then you will be where I want you.”
Nope! All I hear is the sound of my own voice whining and griping to friends and family about my lack of a plan and not knowing what the heck I’m supposed to be do when school starts.
“But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31
So, I’m waiting. And thinking. And planning. And continuing to pray.
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.” Matthew 7:7-8
I know God is listening because He continues to send me peace in the midst of anxiety and courage when I get scared of the future. He is providing me with His love and all-consuming comfort even though I’m not particularly sure of which way to turn.
Case in point of God’s leading – last week a dear friend told me she was teaching a class on vision boards to her business team because she has accomplished everything above and beyond when she has made a vision board for her goals in the past two years. WOW! Guess what I’m going to do?
Making this vision board documenting what I want to accomplish in the next few months will allow me to see where I want to go and how I can get there.
“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.” Colossians 3:23
With all the praying I’ve been doing, I know God will show me His will in His time. I may not know the exact path, but I do know WHO is in control! The vision board may change or grow, but I’m putting God as a top priority, so I know everything else will fall into the right place.
“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10
God has ordained each of my steps and will guide me through the mountains and the valleys. He gives me hope, joy and peace as I continue the journey of life and jump onto the next step!
My vision board will almost be like my prayer journal – it’ll be SO cool to see how God answers my prayers! Can’t wait to let you know what He says!!!
