Halloween is over, Thanksgiving is a few weeks away, Christmas is around the corner, 2014 is getting closer and life is passing us by…quickly. WHOA…slow down, Nelly!!!
H. Jackson Brown, Jr., a New York Times bestseller said, “Don’t say you don’t have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Pasteur, Michaelangelo, Mother Teresa, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein.”
Eek! Guess all those excuses for not having gone to the grocery store can just fly out the window!
The ‘time’ excuse is one we use way too often AND for a multiple of things.
Do any of these sound familiar?
I don’t work out because I don’t have time.
I don’t eat healthy because I don’t have time.
I don’t volunteer because I don’t have time.
I don’t go on dates with my husband because I don’t have time.
I don’t go to church because I don’t have time.
I don’t take a class I’m interested in because I don’t have time.
I don’t spend time with the kids because I don’t have time.
Yes, our time is stretched across a plethora of activities every day. However, are the things we do actually priorities and do they add value to our lives and others? Or are we just wasting time?
Steve Jobs said it well, “…for the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: ‘If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?’ And whenever the answer has been ‘No’ for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.”
God is the only One who can prioritize our lives correctly. Allowing Him to lead our days and FILL them, as well, gives us the success and accomplishment we all long for…it’s called PURPOSE. Without God’s input we are drifting down a road to nowhere.
Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”— yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.” James 4:13-15
There is no better time than the present to kneel before God and ask for Him to organize, prioritize, lead and encourage us towards a life that is perfectly planned out for His greater good.
Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. Ephesians 5:15-17
Realizing that we can’t do this life on our own is half the battle. The other half is humbling ourselves before the Lord and becoming obedient to His Will and not our own.
Yes, I understand how difficult the obedience part is, but it is well worth our time and effort to place our lives in the hands of the One who created us in the first place…because, well, our time on earth is short.
Don’t make excuses…give your life to God and everything else will fall into place.
Some Wisdom for Today: Proverbs 3:1-2 – My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments, for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you.
