What Gets Priority?

Today’s been a hectic one.  I ran through the day taking care of kiddos, washing clothes, writing for a friend, making dinner and cleaning the house.  What didn’t get done was the blog entry I was supposed to write for tomorrow.  UH OH!  Got a lot accomplished, but ran out of time.  Story of my life….

As I was cleaning up the kitchen from dinner and getting the boys ready for bed, I realized I had spent little time with Lee during the day and wondered what he would do tonight while I sat at my desk typing away at the computer.

Undoubtedly, I had a choice to make.

Do I go hang out with my honey or do I write?  My head told me to get to writing so I could get a good nights’ sleep in order to be ready for another day, but my heart told me that Lee is my priority.

Often, we are faced with these decisions.  Many days we just run out of time and have to plan for tomorrow.  But what is getting lost in the shuffle?

For if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God’s church? 1Timothy 3:5

YIKES!!!  I find myself (time and again) selecting the wrong option.  I get so caught up in busyness of life that I rarely make time for the people in my life.  Days become agendas with ‘to do’ items to check off the list.

Things like emails, texts and phone alerts get my attention way more than they should in the midst of serious conversations about Scooby Doo and the gang.  Now, that’s just not right!!

Where is the balance?

Clearly, priorities get out of whack and problems occur.  So how do we set things straight?

Seek the One who made us. – Very important step because if we aren’t in relationship with God who actually made life and US, how can we expect our lives to go smoothly?  Seems simple, but normally overlooked.

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Matthew 6:33

Put people above things. – Okay, most of us would say that our families mean more to us than anything.  Well…PROVE IT.  Make time for loved ones.  Give them undivided attention.  Turn off the cell phone, televisions and computers.  Spend time with one another without distraction.

For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. Luke 12:34

Just say no. – Sounds strange, but desperately required to give us the balance we need in our lives. Honestly, we don’t say no enough…no to time-suckers, no to our children, no to ourselves and no to things that don’t make us better.  If we said no to the things that we shouldn’t do, then it stands to reason we would have more time to say yes to the things we should do.  Huh…that sounded smart (doesn’t happen often – so take note).

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. Psalm 1:1-3

Obviously, I chose Lee as my priority and was blessed with the time (later the same night when I couldn’t sleep) to write the words I know were only given to me through the grace of Jesus Christ.  There is no way I would have been able to come up with all of this on my own!

And that is how it works!! (insert smiley face!)

Some Wisdom for Today:  Proverbs 27:23 – Know well the condition of your flocks, and give attention to your herds.
